Surprised to see me in your inbox on a Thursday?!
✨ Well, here I am! ✨
This is a special edition deep dive of I Hate it Here. Every now and then you may get one of these from me!
This special edition deep dive is sponsored by Workvivo.
What's a deep dive?
Deep dives are opportunities for me to collab with specific companies in the HR/People space on topics of joint interest to them, me, and even you! The sponsoring company provides invaluable input on the topic but this edition itself is written, edited, and published by your fave gal, me! ❤️
Are Your Frontline Workers Disconnected?Copy anchor linkCopied

If we're keeping it real, frontline workers have it rough. 😬
Dealing with annoying customers, demanding hours, and, oh yeah, barely having a second to breathe.
While desk workers might have the luxury of a quick Slack check, email browse, or even an HR webinar during the day, the fact of the matter is your frontline workers are busy dealing with different types of problems.
Ever tried getting a flight attendant’s attention while they’re trying to survive a full flight with a screaming toddler section?! Or watched a frustrated customer scream at a retail manager about return policies?!
Yeah, your frontline workers might not have time to check those Slack updates or even if they have access to company messaging tools... 🫠
Frontline workers differ from desk workers when it comes to:
✈️ Work environment
💻 Access to resources
▶️ Control over work conditions or schedules
And, a lot of HR teams optimize engagement for desk workers, completely overlooking the fact that frontline staff are having an entirely different experience.
The disconnect? It's real, and it shows.
So, what are we going to do about it? Well, I have some ideas!
How to actually engage frontline workers:Copy anchor linkCopied

To fully engage your frontline workers you need to consider:
✅ Your communicate strategies
✅ Modern solutions
✅ Feedback loops
Let’s look at each one of these when it comes to engaging frontline workers.
✅ Your communication strategies:
When engaging with frontline workers your communication should be mobile-friendly.
Why? Because most do not have consistent access to digital tools!!
To increase engagement and flow of communication, aim for something that is mobile friendly.
Something like a platform or automated text messaging can be the difference between something being seen instantly and something being seen never.
And, when it comes to formats - BE CREATIVE. Not everything has to be an email! You can leverage things like voice notes or video messages to get something across.
The goal is to keep your comms accessible, digestible and effective. The chef’s kiss trifecta!
✅ Modern solutions:
Gone are the days of boring company intranet or Notion pages. No more dumping grounds for important files or clunky pages no one references until there is a problem they need to solve.
We all know the feeling of hunting for a file we seem like we can never find!
Your frontline workers need modern solutions. Something sophisticated AND social.
A place where:
- All their tools are integrated
- Collaboration is welcome and everyone has a voice
- Regular updates are stored
- The interface is user-friendly not something from 1998
- All files are centralized (the dream!)
- Shoutouts and recognition are easy rather than corny
- They can access things on the go via a mobile app
And finally, a place where your employees can SCROLL. Like they’re already conditioned to doing on virtually every other app out there.
Why does it feel like work tools are so behind on this?!!!
Well, actually Workvivo isn’t! They're here to level the playing field and build something for the modern workplaces. It’s why I’m thrilled they wanted to partner on this deep dive together.
📣 In their platform, everyone, whether it’s the CEO or a retail worker, has access to the same info, updates, and engagement tools. Companies like Ryanair have seen 90% adoption rates with content from flight attendants and engineers to the CEO himself joining in on the conversation.
In the clurb, we all fam right??
Okay, one last engagement tactic worth mentioning…
✅ Feedback loops:
Want to know what’s really going down? Some HR teams may not know what their frontline workers are dealing with…
So, why not ask them? And actually listen.
But here’s the thing - you can’t make this like a traditional survey! Your frontline workers need something that is easily accessible, not time consuming and maybe kind of fun??
You can do ALL of this in, you guessed it, Workvivo!
Surveys, polls, pulse checks all that can happen IN a mobile app that doesn’t make employees feel like it's one more hoop they have to jump through to give their feedback.
Don’t believe me? One Workvivo client found that when they rolled out mobile surveys, engagement shot up by 50%!! YUP YOU READ THAT RIGHT.
But, why does all this matter?
Well because engagement has a REAL impact on your customer experience as well…
Why engagement really matters (spoiler: It’s $$$)Copy anchor linkCopied

I won’t sugarcoat it:
More engaged employees = Better customer experiences = More revenue.
Yup, you read that right! Gallup says highly engaged teams show 21% greater profitability.
So yeah, it’s more than just good vibes. 😉
Think of brands like Trader Joe’s or Disney.
People rave about their customer service because their employees are genuinely invested.
You’ll see it reflected in Glassdoor reviews, and more importantly, in the customer experience.
The more engaged your team is, the better they’ll treat your customers, which means more loyalty, better reviews, and yes, more cash flow baby!
At the end of the day, it’s not just about making employees happy for the sake of it (although, hello, we should care).
It’s about creating a thriving workplace where everyone, from the boardroom to the sales floor, feels connected and valued.
⭐️ And that’s where Workvivo shines, by giving you the tools to engage, retain, and empower your people, no matter where they work.
Be sure to check out their platform and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Now, more than ever, your employees are craving connection in a modern way.
Don’t disappoint them with one more outdated tool, leverage Workvivo to give them a modern and chic experience. One that feels like they’re on a social app when in reality they’re in your digital workplace.
✨ This is the future!! ✨
That's all for this week! I hope you enjoyed this, please let me know what you think and what other topics you'd love for me to cover. I'm allll ears.
Reminder: Take care of yourself and know that I support you.
